hospital visit

Salam.

Ok, I should start publish some posts I saved in the drafts. If not, they will rot there waiting to be uploaded by me.

Monday 2 weeks ago which was on 21st May, the whole batch of pharmacy students part 4 went for a hospital visit to Hospital Sultan Abdul Halim, Sg Petani 🏥 of course, I was one of those people who extremely excited for this visit 😝

Jadi setibanya kami kat sana, kami dibawa ke auditorium for a short briefing gituww 📣 well, an hour wasn't that short though but luckily the speaker was sooo nice & delivered her presentation in a way we could easily understand, everyone was thinking she should join uitm as our new pharmacy lecturer duh 😂 so she explained briefly about pharmacy departments they've in the hospital & we were then divided into 4 groups untuk turun padang tengok each department (bukan tengok padang hospital ye gais). Group b the one I was in, started off with going to the out-patient department dekat level 1 kut tak silap hm entah lah aku follow je pharmacist yang bawa kitorang tuh dari belakang tak sure ke dunia mana kami dibawa 😯 for those who curious to know what is out-patient pharmacy, it is actually the pharmacy that patients who aren't warded in the hospital take the medications prescribed by the doctors. Kalau korang pergi hospital, jumpa doctor then doctor suruh ambil ubat kat kaunter, ha that's out-patient pharmacy that you'll take the meds from. This department is the busiest department in any hospital but I don't know I think I'll have fun in there sebab tak membosankan, I guess. I was actually pretty amazed sebab kat belakang counter where the pharmacists dispensed the meds to the patients, ada this one thing yang bergerak macam kat sushi king tu ala aku lupa apa nama dia. Tapi tulah benda yang bergerak gerak tu ha korang faham lah kan. Ok bijak. Dekat belakang counter, there are too many people inside macam packed juga lah sebab kat situlah labelling, angkat call from patients yang nak ambil ubat, handle meds yang nak kena hantar to patients via poslaju & segala macam kerja lah dalam department tuh. Oh yes, also have drive-thru pharmacy in there 🚘

After that, we moved to logistic department (bukan tempat logi sisa bahan kumbahan kat hospital ke apa tau hahah nanti ada pulak yang ingat macam tu) , the department where all the medications and pharmaceutical supplies are stored and that's where the pharmacists order all those medications from suppliers. This place isn't my place. Masuk je dah menguap haha kau rasa 😴 macam mana nak survive hospital training nanti?!?! Lepastu kitorang pergi mana ek hurmmm jap..........ha kitorang pergi TDM department dimana kitorang di-briefkan oleh seorang pharmacist hensem (aku pandang kejap je, ha yelah kan tengah puasa masa ni mohon jangan kecam sis saya insan yang lemah) (pandang sekali takpe, pandang dua kali jangan) Tempat ni lah untuk kira blood drug level/therapeutic index supaya pharmacists boleh adjust drug dose & frequency yang nak kena bagi kat patients. Pharmacists juga boleh tahu patients compliance or tak with the drug regimen sebab boleh detect the drug in their blood samples.

Moving to another place where the extemporaneous medications are prepared & also tempat dimana ubat-ubatan yang dibeli secara bulk akan di prepacked and repacked. Kalau macam lotion yang beli dari supplier kan datang dalam bekas besar gajah tu kan, nanti penolong pegawai farmasi (ppf) akan repacked dalam smaller container. Tempat nih aku rasa hm okay lah aku boleh go lagi compared to logistic department tadi fuhhh 😧 As for in-patient department, everything's good sebab lebih kurang je cuma this department nih yang handle ubat-ubatan yang nak kena bagi kat warded patients either by unit-of-dose (uod) and unit-of-use (uou) 💊

Cytotoxic drug reconstitution & total parenteral nutrition department tulah yang ada clean room, kena pakai proper gowning, tak boleh pakai makeup semua tu. Senang cakap apa yang kena mengena dengan dua department nih mesti kena aseptic. Pakai baju macam astronaut tu lah. Berhari-hari aku hadap 3 4 buku tebal pasal aseptic and sterile compounding untuk siapkan assignment jadi sedikit sebanyak lekat juga lah ilmu dalam kepala, Alhamdulillah.

Off to satellite pharmacy 🚀 dulu aku ingat tempat ni ada kena mengena dengan satellite, rocket dan seangkatan dengannya tapi ternyata silap. Huhu. Satellite pharmacy nih tempat warded patients yang baru nak discharge ambil ubat. Mesti pening kan sebab banyak sangat. The reason behinds it sebab nak mudah kan kerja & supaya lagi sistematik 📑

After habis tawaf semua pharmacy deparments, kitorang berkumpul balik kat bawah ha kat situ tetiba ada orang jual jual komik lama, magazines etc. Sekali mata aku terpandang kat this one magazine, grab and terus bayar. Cuba teka majalah apa? Iyez, it's epop 😛 naik bas, belek majalah sehelai dua terus tidur sebab kena manfaatkan masa yang ada sebab petang tuh ada kelas lagi uishhhh penat 😪 nasib baik lah computer lab biostatistic petang tuh macam relax sikit eceh tu pun sebab Allisya banyak tolong aku :")

Sekian cerita yang tergendala. More posts to come 💓
